Orientation weekend in Buena Vista, CO! We had an amazing camping experience with Antonio(The City Director), his family, his parents, and Glenn Balzer’s family (The DOOR national director, and an awesome human being!) It was such a great weekend getting to know everyone and their families, and our new family!
Friday morning, us Dwellers and Antonio took a little walk around Cottonwood Lake to a dock. Once there, we began to hear each other’s stories; where we came from, what our families are like, what we’re bringing with us, and how we got here. We learned about the ease, or challenge of coming to our faiths and what made it our own. We learned about the major moments in each others lives that make us who we are, and we even began to reveal those parts of us we like to keep hidden and pretend don’t exist. It was there that this journey began to get real for me. To become tangible, palpable.
There’s something very special, I would say even holy, about hearing how God works in the stories of others.
There on that dock, we began to see each other as brothers and sisters, each on a very different journey towards the same loving Creator that brought us there. Though we began strangers, far apart, we began to grow closer to each other, and thus, closer to the Spirit in the heart of each of us.
I would ask that those of you who read this pray for our new family; Meg, Johanna, Sarah, Maegan and I. And more specifically that as we grow closer to each other, that we would grow closer to God; and as we grow closer to God, that we would grow closer to each other.
-grace and peace : )
